The Sea Side - Pastel Workshop

We live in one of the most beautiful suburbs in Durban
(South Africa). Right next to the Indian Ocean. Understanding the sea and its fluidness is one way we can capture its beauty.

Pastels are in a variety of colours, these paintings have
pastels of a higher quality (Rembrandt's).
Every stroke identifies the dark and light reflections of the oceans waves. The finish of the paper used is of rough sandpaper. You can use the colour of your paper to the sea scapes' advantage or you can under coat the paper in yellow depending on the light (time of day).
The angle at which you position your sea scape makes for a precise description of the waves rolling and the light reflections. Thus a slightly angled image is preferred with sea scapes. I have included a short video and diagram of the sea and its light and dark waves to inspire you.
